PAYING FOR TREATMENT
Despite laws and initiatives passed, paying for treatment is still an obstacle. If you are uninsured, the first thing to check is to see if you are eligible for low-cost or free insurance. This process is often started at your local state Medicaid office. If you have been extremely sick, you also might look into applying for disability through the Social Security Administration. This can be a long, detailed process, so make sure you keep track of your appointments, dates, doctors, tests, etc. Although many places will not initially agree to Medicaid, they may agree to “single-case agreements,” which is another process but a way to get the treatment you need. Ask your local ombudsman, medicaid office or case manager about this.
