As of 2011, this is the information we have….

When I went through the program both Dr. X and the rest of the staff were incredible. I had been through other treatment programs before at different centers (the University of Alberta Hospital) and they were awful and did not work one bit – I can honestly say they actually made my condition worse by forcing me to gain weight, not doing ANY cognitive therapy and allowing me to develop very bad habits…The staff of the IP program at the Ottawa Hospital was 100% the opposite – they were tough and some times really seemed like they didn’t care at all and forced you to really go out of your comfort zones at times, but that is actually what I believe was a crucial part of the treatment – they eased up and were nice to you later on but they really forced you to take a good look at where you had come from, where you were at, and where exactly you were (wanting) to go…..the nurses were great and the dieticians were also very good. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, the activities are less in the IP program but the patients there are also generally (physically) more sick than those in the day hospital and so aren’t able to do quite as much. But, one thing I can say is that the staff truly do care and build a great repore with the patients and really do try to get them off of the destructive path that they’re on and help them to get better. I spent 4 ish months there and they became like another family to me… I highly recommend the program to anyone who actually wants to rid themselves of the AWFUL disease and missery that an ED is.

I have heard mixed reviews on the program Director. Also heard he doesn’t remember names, but someone said this is because he has so many patients and I know the waiting list is very long. Do you really feel like he picks favorites? Thanks very much for the feedback! Would you mind doing a full review? Describe an average day, what were they meals like, etc. This would be really helpful. Also, I was under the impression that after inpatient you had the opportunity to do the day program?

I did not have a positive experience with this program
I was in the inpatient and it basically an under funded weight gain program.
I heard the day hospital was really great. You get people who are really motivated and medically stable so the focus is on mental recovery. the inpatients tend to just be frequent flyers who need to reach a bmi and hopefully get something out of it along the way.
All the groups and activities happen in the day hospital ,there are not many in IP.
Dr. X was, im sure, once very good but has really gone downhill. He barely remembers patients names and dissorders and picks favorites to actually care about and the rest might as well be invisible.
Pretty much everyone I was in there with has relapsed and has gone back or is going back. Im applying to homewood cause I never want to do that program again.

Good luck with you recovery, hope that helps.
