This program is now closed
Inner Door Center has had a huge impact on my life. Since I walked into the Center’s doors I have gradually learned to accept my body, my appearance, and my individuality. I have more self-respect and self-love. I learned how to enjoy my food by eating mindfully, learning how to cook, setting meal intentions, and being grateful for having access to food to nourish my body. I have also significantly decreased eating disorder behaviors that have harmful consequences to my health. I am enjoying having more emotional freedom and time to participate in activities I enjoy instead of self-destructive activities that temporarily numb and stuff down emotions. I have learned how to express my emotions through poetry, art, music, yoga and dance movement. I have started to volunteer and use my talents to serve others. Inner Door gradually eased me out of their program into outpatient providers so I can have time to fully and freely participate in life and accomplishing my dreams. I am very thankful to Inner Door Center as their staff has been supportive, kind, and patient. I, now, have a more hopeful outlook that is stronger than my past fears of failure, unworthiness, and strive for perfection. Now I strive to do my best and give myself grace. I will do my best. My best is what I have to give and I radically accept that fact. Thank you again, Inner Door, for giving me a second chance at life and pursuing my dreams!
What is the program schedule like there? Also how was the food variety? Did they have a chef on staff or have it brought in? I know I heard they do cooking classes during the treatment which is nice too. I know you eat most your meals there so I wasn’t sure how that worked if it was basic foods they buy or have a chef prepare it. I’ve been to a ED center before and sometimes the food was so horrible not even staff members would eat it!! Then I’ve toured some other centers and the chef is great and food was good with all verities.
Was the therapy there good and helpful? Especially for girls
Who have been through domestic traumas?
Thanks for any info you can give 🙂
Inner Door was a nightmare within the nightmare of an eating disorder. They required payment in full up front and also billed our insurance company. 10 months later they have kept our money and our insurance company’s money. They are dishonest and unethical. We have been forced to hire an attorney to sue them for $16,000 they have kept for almost a year. If they aren’t ethical and honest in their business practices, they are not honest and ethical in their treatment. To have a sick child then have a health care provide steal from you for treatment is beyond comprehension.
The Inner Door program was the perfect answer for my eating disorder. The day program allowed me to work on my recovery, yet still go home to my family at the end of the day and practice what I had learned. I love that I could be home with my husband and kids at night. The therapists at the Inner Door are very approachable and they work with your challenges in a way that is not intimidating. Many of them have experienced eating disorders themselves and their kindness and understanding makes for a very safe-feeling environment. I can’t say enough good things about this program!
I would recommend this program to anybody. I came here after struggling with an eating disorder for over 5 years. I thought I would never recover and was ready to give up. This place changed everything. In the couple of months that I have been here, I have learned to love myself again.
The staff was amazing and supported my every step of the way. I will forever be grateful to the Inner Door Center for allowing me to get my life back.
At first the program was really hard, but the welcoming and nurturing nature really helped me get into the swing of things, and I over all had a really good experience.
The Inner Door Center saved my life. I came into the partial hospitalization program straight from the psych ward after a suicide attempt. I spent the first couple weeks hellbent on self-destruction, fighting the staff with every ounce of strength I had. They never gave up on me, not even for a second. I spent 22 weeks in PHP waiting for my weight to restore — and in that time, they helped me find myself. The therapists are the best I have ever worked with (and I’ve seen A LOT of therapists…) and I still see Travis as an outpatient. IDC gave me a second chance at life, and helped me to realize that it really IS worth living. I still struggle with depression and anxiety, which they continue to help me work on, but I no longer feel the urge to abuse my body to cope with negative emotions. Food is no longer my enemy, and I have IDC to thank for that. They knew exactly how hard to push me, and I thank god every single day that they did.
inner door is awesome they saved my daughters life -they helped my teen who desired a very low weight. they have given hope and healing and tools for our daughter and for the parents. to help are daughter and are daughter to cope and have more hope. very happy are insurance recommended them.
My daughter attended the program just over a year ago. Like many of you, I was a skeptic to a program like this but the staff were professional and kind. They were willing to answer any question on options and why the program works. They were so willing to help us regardless of the options we could choose. The entire team just gave us the support we needed.
I know it was hard for my daughter (and us) to face this head on but she embraced the program and has done wonderful. A year later, we have our strong, confident daughter back.
The path is not easy and is filled with many challenges but the results speak for themselves. We need many more places like this to help those struggling with eating disorders. Employees know how to contact me if you would like to know more from a family who have been at the door –looking in. Please know that you are well cared for at the Inner Door.
When were you there:
May – July 2012
How many patients on average? 4
Does it treat both males and females? If so, is treatment separate or combined.
I’m not sure, but I believe it’s coed and combined.
How often do you see a medical doctor, psychiatrist, psychologist (therapist), nutritionist, etc?
You see all of these once a week, or more depending on your situation.
What is the staff ratio to patients?
There are a lot of pt staff, but they far outweighed the four of us.
What sort of therapies are used? (DBT, CBT, EMDR) etc?
This is a holistic yoga based program. However, there is also traditional therapy too including psychiatric drugs if you need them.

The first hour is yoga, snack, group then lunch. The afternoon is some kind of therapy like art therapy, movement therapy, nutrition.
What were meals like?
Meals were awesome. We got food from a local gourmet grocery store.
What sorts of food were available or served?
We could put anything on the grocery list we wanted, but we were expected to eat a balance of protein and carb for snacks.
Did they supplement? How did that system work?
They supplemented if clients refused to eat. Clients could refuse supplements.
What is the policy of not complying with meals?
Clients, I believe, were asked to sign a waiver if they weren’t compliant.

Not that I know of.
Other?
This is a good program for people who are ready to get well. There is a lot of freedom and self accountability. So it’s up to you what you want to get out of it. It’s a newer program, so it has some kinks to work out, but the people are great and really care about the clients. I felt lucky to have been there.
It’s been several months since I wrote this review and I now have a very different opinion of eating disorder treatment in general and this one specifically. As an older person, who has a very full life and has few, if any, negative consequences to a very mild ed this center was what I consider the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. It did not help me at all because they just didn’t know what to do with someone who is as healthy as I am and in the position I am in my life. The people are well intentioned and follow the current treatment that is intended for ed, but for me it was a waste of time and money. They just couldn’t see me as someone different as the eighteen year old who was starving herself. I think specialized treatment for older women is what was needed, and what I told them, but they were unable or unwilling to provide that.
Suzanne,
I would like to know you opinion of a good alternative treatment. I have been struggling with ED for a long time but I consider myself quite healthy and capable, I have found it impossible to kick this problem thus far though so I am considering joining a PHP (again). Obviously, money is an object and Inner Door is hugely expensive- advise?
Hi Michmobi,
I wish like anything I had advice for you, but I can really only tell you want worked for me. What is comes down to is trauma issues specifically that have causes so many issues in my life, so I am working on healing that, and the eating issues are resolving themselves naturally. This is a new area with very recent research, so ID wasn’t set up to deal with that, which is what I needed. If this sounds like something that might help you then I can send you some links/more info. Just let me know and I’ll be happy to help. There is a lot of information out there about new healing modalities, so I would start doing everything I could to learn about different ways of healing. Best to you.
