Describe the average day:
You buy and bring your own meals here. If you are in PHP, you eat breakfast, AM snack, lunch, PM snack, and dinner there. Every Monday, we would go grocery shopping at the local grocery store.
– You bought your own Boost/Ensure and they would supplement you based on what you didn’t complete. The thing I loved about this place is that it’s not like other treatment centers where you feel like you are being punished by drinking a supplement. The dietary aide or your therapist would sit with you and support you.
-Yes and also vegan.
-DBT, CBT, ACT, body image, Yoga, Meditation, Treatment planing, Gardening, and other groups.
-My favorite group was DBT. The founder is DBT based and she would run the DBT groups. She was such a knowledgeable person when it came to eating disorders. She helped me so much.
-How it felt like a family. They make the place feel home-like and all the staff are supportive. The PHP was Monday-Friday 8 am-6/7 PM. I know at the time, the IOP schedule was flexible. I’m not quite sure how it is now. You were able to text people for support when you needed it. They also know how ED’s are and they don’t put up with BS lol.
-You weren’t allowed to go on passes. The only time you were was when you were doing an exposure. It was hard to live an outside life while in PHP. I felt like I missed out on a lot of things but in a way, I knew I needed the help.
-Absolutely. *** is so sweet and the program itself is what we needed here in San Antonio. It’s very individualized and anytime you needed support, someone was there. I still talk to people to this day who I was in treatment with.
-It’s based on what your team recommends.
-No.
-Again, very individualized. They were willing to fight for you when it came to insurance.
-They have adolescents (I think it was like 10/11-17) and adults. I was with the adults and it ranged anywhere from 18 all the way to people in their 50s.
-We utilize Recovery Record or sometimes, your therapist or even the owner herself were available anytime you needed something. Because of that extra support, it really helped me with my urges.
-They have outpatient therapy there and I’m not quite sure if the dietitian there sees outpatient. I know the old one who was there did. They have outpatient groups as well.
-I’m not quite sure. I know this one girl there who stayed at the Ronald McDonald house throughout her whole treatment.

I was here for a period of time and initially found sessions to be helpful. They provided a calm and supportive environment where I was able to begin addressing some difficult topics.
However, there came a point in our work when they determined it was necessary to break confidentiality. I recognize that mental health professionals are sometimes required by law or ethical standards to take such action, particularly in cases involving safety concerns.
That said, the way the situation was handled left me feeling unsettled. I wish there had been more communication and collaboration around what was happening and why. The lack of clarity made it difficult for me to fully process the experience and maintain trust in the therapeutic relationship. The aftermath significantly impacted my mental health and my trust in the therapeutic process.
Confidentiality is a cornerstone of effective therapy, and when it must be broken, I believe it should be done with transparency, care, and a continued commitment to the client’s dignity and agency. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here.
I share this not to place blame, but in the hope that future clients might benefit from a more transparent approach in similar circumstances.
For anyone looking for treatment programs that take Tricare, this program does! They don’t have dedicated housing for clients who are from out-of-town, but work with the Ronald McDonald House to provide free lodging to anyone who needs it.
Can anyone give feedback re: BED php at Esperanzas?
