Sadly, I wish I had done more research before starting my daughter with a therapist there. We now have a way bigger problem on our hands and wasted much valuable time attending therapy sessions with a CCEBT practitioner. She was given no structure, told to eat as much as possible to renourish and ignored when she alerted her therapist as to what was now going on with her eating. I did voice my concerns to a director and never heard back from the therapist in question, even though my daughter had signed over all legal forms and I was very much involved in her treatment. I have so much regret.
Extremely difficult to work with, and falsely advertising their treatment plans. This quote from their website explains their attitude towards their patient’s health :
“Why should I/we choose CCEBT for eating disorder treatment when we are being recommended to a higher level of care (residential, inpatient hospitalization, Partial Hospitalization)? We believe that parents/patients should have a choice regarding eating disorder treatment.”
A choice. On whether or not your sick child should be seen by actual doctors. Versus ex-school counselors who love
“treatment” here made me worse, just in a different way. i was only able to recover on my own, after the fact. I would not recommend medical assistance from this org.
They use a very specific and standardized type of treatment. Even as an adult, the approach was very much focused on talking about the food and what you ate, rather than social/emotional factors that lead you to the ED. That might work for some people, particularly if you have already done a lot of other therapy. But for me, I’d rather leave the extensive food logs to a dietician and address some additional topics in therapy. Their approach also imposed some time-related food rules that caused me more harm than good.
*Trigger warning for very poorly handled weight restoration*
Extremely disappointed in CCEBT and would not recommend.
They are not forthcoming in their therapy approach which is not individualized by patient. No matter what stage of ED your child is in they insist on months and months of weight gain (without any specific goal) before any kind of psychotherapy begins — even if your child has already made strides in weight restoration and even if your child is in emotional distress.
Any psychologist knows you have to treat each child differently. Perhaps this is not the case with CCEBT because the program seems to have been designed by a doctor with primarily a research rather than therapy background.
Great approach to treatment and amazing alternative to residential (if that has failed for you in the past or isn’t the right fit). Incorporates the family a lot since they specialize in FBT but I have found that extremely helpful.
