Living Proof is a new family-style residential treatment house for adults located in Bloomington, MN. It is designed to benefit those who haven’t found traditional treatment centers to be helpful. It is modeled after FBT (Family-Based Treatment), with the recovery support provided 24/7 by peer mentors who have recovered. Residents are expected to be under the care of an outside physician. If anyone has more information about the program, please share!

Just from trying to look them up on google, it seems like they have undergone a name change? And possibly no longer offer residential? I hope I’m not giving any incorrect info! Just how it looks to me
I think you are right! I have been wondering the same thing but couldn’t tell, so if you are finding the same thing it’s probably true! It was founded by an ED activist so she may have stopped doing the residential and is now focusing on other ED recovery related issues?
Yes! According to their website, the Living Proof program is now called Beyond Rules Recovery. There isn’t much info available online atm; hopefully BRR will add more details to their site soon.

Living proof is what eating disorder treatment SHOULD be. It is individually focused and you are guided to FULL recovery at your own pace and with regards to your unique challenges/needs not at the whims of insurance timelines or universally prescribed treatment center methods. The founder of the program Shira is present with you every day, and having recovered from her own long term eating disorder she understands what works and what doesn’t. I was guided through weight restoration in a way that made me feel confident in myself and actually able to enjoy nourishing myself..quickly moving into serving my own snacks and preparing meals we could enjoy together. The groups and discussions we have here are so much more productive than any I attended in more traditional treatment as we can actually discuss things and the people that log on to the Zoom groups offered every day are so supportive and recovery-focused rather than illness-focused. I tried so hard to recover on my own having read all of Tabitha Farrars method and really wanted to be able to push myself through nutritional rehabilitation and neural rewiring but ultimately I needed more support and that is just what Living Proof offered. In just a few months Shira and Living Proof helped me turn my entire life around. If you have been disillusioned by treatment centers and if you are truly motivated to recover, I can’t recommend Living Proof enough
Thank you so much for this review, Emily. Aside from the groups, what else did you do during the day? I have been looking into this program.
In addition to the hour long Zoom groups (open to public so frequently new voices/faces..but also a consistent core or “regulars”), we would also have “house groups”, working through a binder of materials together with worksheets (ex “core beliefs”, self determined goal setting, identity) and less formal discussions. I also had a lot of individual mentoring discussions and daily check ins. We spent a lot of time together playing games and doing art projects and just hanging out watching TV or cooking/baking. We frequently went out to hike around the area, take walks to the park close by, visit museums, and grocery shopped together! There was plenty of free time and I appreciated being able to “find my own way” of occupying myself, there is an awesome selection of arts and craft supplies and hobby stuff and I spent a lot of time resting/reflecting and trying out new hobbies. That was actually an unexpected perk of this program- I feel truly comfortable with free time now and confident in my ability to enjoy it in a healthy way 🙂 also if you like puzzles….big puzzle fans
Thank you so much for this, I struggle a lot with free time, so this would also be a benefit for me. I really appreciate you following up!
Hello,
Can you explain the policies, rules, expectations, consequences, and so forth?
In true FBT there are phases where the family takes responsibility for decisions about food and activities.
Modified-/-Adaped models create a contractual agreement where the patient defines treatment goals ANS enlists supports to help follow through w/ the challenges of rewiring unhealthy rituals as new habits.
Does everyone eat the same foods? Are there group meals where every eats the same menu?
Are you responsible for your own grocery costs? Can you at least add things to a list?
Will they assist with finding a local PCP while there?
Thanks
would you be willing to chat personally?
can you give more direction as to how meals and snacks are done in comparison to your typical treatment approach?
Do clients choose their foods or are they expected to eat what is served? What is policy if meals are not eaten? Are mealtimes and snack times rigid? How are meal plans created? do they have a RD? therapist that you work with?
What types of food are expected to be eaten, can one be vegan and gluten free.
I don’t even think this can be considered treatment. In no way is it licensed or overseen by anyone.
I’ve heard lots of sketchy things that have happened there.
Stay clear
Can you elaborate at all? It’s so new that I haven’t heard anything at all.
I agree Avery!
Any reviews yet?
As a heads up – you can do a free Zoom or phone chat with Shira who runs the program. I spoke with her for about 45 minutes and she answered a lot of the questions I had – I didn’t ask any of your questions, but I would love to know if you end up speaking with her. Also, you can attend their Zoom groups for $6 and get a feel for the program. I went to one last week and it was helpful.
